Welcome to My SOA VP Candidacy Website.

This website allows me to share some additional information, both professional and personal supplementing my profile on the SOA website. It also allows me to provide additional perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing the Society of Actuaries. I look forward to your feedback and questions. Society of Actuaries Challenges and Opportunities:

Our profession has experienced solid growth. I believe that to remain viable we need to grow even more. We also need to make sure we sustain our traditional market position at the same time. Things I believe in:

1.       Continued expansion and promotion of the CERA credential

2.       Globalization of the CERA credential while maintaining the credential’s quality.

3.       Recognition that the SOA is no longer a North American organization with a growing segment of our membership outside our traditional geography.

4.       Continued efforts to identify opportunities for actuaries and promote actuaries as potential candidates for positions in non-traditional industry segments.

5.       Positioning actuaries as risk managers in all industry segments where are skills and knowledge fit.

6.       Expansion of the SOA’s Centers of Excellence program and ultimately moving towards a university based education system.

7.       Aggressive marketing of the SOA brand but with focused efforts on identifying and targeting specific audiences.

8.       Closer working relationships, beyond marketing efforts, with traditional and non-traditional employers. The Employer’s Council is a good example of this effort.

9.       A section driven SOA with much stronger ties between sections, the SOA Board and the Leadership team.

10.    Greater and more effective communication with the membership.

11.    Effective and affordable delivery of CPD beyond the traditional meeting format.

12.    Improving relationships with other International Actuarial organizations.

I bring 35 years of professional experience both as a company actuary and as a consultant. I now have my own advisory services business that allows me to devote the time needed to Society of Actuaries initiatives. Accordingly, I have been a very active SOA Board member. I have devoted considerable time and effort to the various CERA (plus other) initiatives including the current efforts at globalization of the CERA credential. I remain active and have the time to serve. Even better I truly enjoy giving something back.

I’m excited about the prospects for our profession and I’m looking forward to contributing to its continued success.

I grew up in New York City (not far from JFK). Shortly after High School, I spent four years in the Navy on the USS Hammerberg DE 1015, a destroyer escort, during the Vietnam era. While in the Navy I met my wife Susan and married her within months of being discharged from the Navy. While Susan worked I went to college. So the sequence was not traditional. I found mathematics along the way and actuarial science in my final year at school. Upon graduation I turned down opportunities to pursue other career paths to become an actuary.

We lived and worked in the New York metropolitan area until 1982 when we moved to the Hartford suburb of Granby, CT. We’ve been there since.

Susan and I have been married for 39 years. Actually, Susan has tolerated me for 39 years!! We have two boys Christopher and Peter. Both are in their thirties. Chris & Diane live in New York City. Peter and Lisa live in Higganum, CT.

I’m a fairly avid amateur photographer with a special interest in people and wildlife. My interest in photography has taken me to some very interesting places including extended trips to Kenya, Alaska, Egypt and Galapagos. If you’d like to see some of my photography you can go to www.franksabatiniphotography.com. I’ve learned that if you have good subject matter and sufficient memory you can get at least one good image.

Susan and I love to travel and visit with our kids plus we’re active in our community. I enjoy golf.
